FAQ’s

30 Day Trial

When I start my trial, do I have to setup my direct debit?

No. It’s a one off £5.00 payment to allow you to access 30 days of coaching.

Do I need my own equipment?

No. We have rackets and equipment that you can use during the session. Do bring a drink though!

I’ve enjoyed my trial and want to join the full programme.

Great! We will be in touch with you throughout the trial and can upgrade you onto your preferred coaching plan at any point.

PB Tennis Membership

Is PB Tennis membership included in my coaching plan?

We have included membership to our monthly coaching packages. This means you receive 15% off on our holiday camps and one2one coaching, restrings and shop.

I don’t attend group coaching, can I still purchase membership?

Of course! Once membership is purchased you will be able to receive the discounted members prices on all services applicable. This is great if you are just attending camps or one2one lessons.

Can I upgrade my coaching plan or membership?

Yes! Simply email us and we can change any of your monthly or yearly plans.

Holiday Camps

Can I purchase multiple packs?

Yes. You can purchase packs whenever you like and can hold as many packs on your account as you like. So if you are getting down to the last couple of days on your current pack, then feel free to purchase another pack.

Do I have to use all the days in my pack within one holiday period?

No. The days in your pack can be spread across as many camps as you like.

What if there is no pack for the number of days I want to attend?

We recommend getting the pack size above the number of days you need as your pack won’t expire, so you can use the additional days in another week, plus you then make a bigger daily saving.

My child is ill, can I cancel that day?

Yes. You can cancel a session up to 1 hour in advance of the day and you can then use that day for another booking.

Is lunch included?

No. Please ensure you send your child with enough food for the day. We recommend a packed lunch plus an extra couple of snacks for break time. We can fill up water bottles so recommend reusable bottles rather than cartons of drink.

What else does my child need?

Just to come in sports clothing appropriate to the temperature (if it’s raining we will be inside). Packed lunch, snacks and a drinks bottle. No sports equipment is needed, but if you do have your own racket you can of course bring it.

What if it's raining?

We have plenty of halls and rooms that we can go in indoors, so the camp is on whatever the weather!

What is LTA British Tennis Membership?

All players signing up for a Coaching will be able to access a free Lite LTA Tennis Membership, run by our governing body, the LTA. You will need your “British tennis number” to enter LTA sanctioned tournaments and competitions external to our club. You will then be able to view the matches that you have played, and your results, online. You will be notified of a change in your rating or ranking and will also receive monthly updates from the LTA.

For all junior players and older, you will then be eligible to win the chance to purchase Wimbledon tickets. As Mini Tennis members aren’t eligible for Wimbledon tickets, we invite parents to sign up as British tennis members also as part of your membership.

When signing up, please ensure you type “St Marys Tennis Club, HU6 7TN” and / or “Cherry Burton Tennis Club” as your registered club.

Coaching Plans - Coach & Coach Plus

How many times a week should I play?

This is completely up to you, your budget, time available and how quickly you would like to improve. We would encourage playing twice per week for most players, be that one coaching session and a hit with a friend or family member, or two coaching sessions per week. We have designed our “Coach Plus” package to offer 2 sessions per week for just £10 per month extra.

Can I pay for the whole year?

Yes! And you only pay for 11 months so you get a month free! Just select this option on the website. This is still a direct debit option and will be taken every 12 months.

I am currently paying monthly, but I would like to change to pay for a whole year – can I?

Of course – simply email us and we can change you over to the one-year plan. You will be notified of the date for the year payment to be taken.

Do I have to sign up to a minimum term?

No! We're very confident that you will find the coaching we provide enjoyable, quality and great value for money, so there is no fixed term contract. If there ever becomes a time you wish to leave the programme, you simply have to write to us giving one month’s notice.

Is there a joining fee?

No! We're confident that you will enjoy your coaching with us and so we feel there is no need for a joining fee.

However, as our fees are based around a year’s sessions split monthly, we obviously want to avoid people cancelling their direct debit one month, then re-joining the next. As such, if you cancel your coaching plan and then wish to re-join within 12 months of that cancellation, then a £20.00 re-joining fee will be charged.

How do I cancel my direct debit?

You can cancel your direct debit at any point with 30 days’ notice by emailing us.

Is there a pay and play option available?

No. The direct debit system is there to make payment for sessions simple and automatic and makes the administration for our staff much easier. It allows us to ensure groups stay within our coach:player ratios and allows coaches to better plan sessions. It also promotes commitment from our players which encourages progress in their ability.

There are less sessions this month, why is the amount is the same?

We have worked out how many sessions will take place, as a minimum, within 1 year from any point of joining. We have taken that yearly amount and evenly split it between 12 monthly payments. Some months there will be less sessions, but some there will be more. We have also taken into account 3 missed sessions in the pricing as we understand that people may miss some lessons for a number of reasons.

I'm not fussed about competitions - do I get a cheaper monthly fee?

Simply, no. We have included the competitions, as we believe this is an important part of a player’s development at all ages. Think of them as an extra coaching session - players will learn to score, learn the rules and also have a lot of fun while putting coaching skills into practice.

I have two or more children – do I get a discount?

Unfortunately not. Our costs are worked out based on our coach:player ratios in each group. Therefore, each player signed up has to pay for that place on the course. This allows us to keep our costs lower for everyone.

What if I miss a session?

There are several reasons you may miss a session, here is what would happen in each situation:

- Weather, Coach cancelled, advanced notice of holiday.

You can make up a missed session at any other session running (subject to space).

We have already taken into account 3 missed sessions in the fees. In the case of more than 3 missed sessions for you within a year (for any of the above reasons), and it is not possible for you to attend any other session running, then you will receive credit on your account.

- Player is ill, is away, or any other reason you cannot make the session.

You can make the missed session up at any other session running (subject to space). In this case you must email to let the coach know which date you would like to make up the missed session so that we can add you to the register.

- Player is injured or going to be away for longer than one month.

A pause to your DD can be discussed with tennis manager (max once per year and only when agreed with tennis manager). Please remember that we have already taken the cost of 3 group lessons off in consideration that people may miss some sessions.

- No shows.

If you simply don’t turn up for your session without prior notice, then that is a missed session and you will not be entitled to any extra session or refund.

Is coaching inside or outside and what if it’s bad weather?

Most of our coaching takes place outside. In inclement weather we will always try to get the session on inside in one of the sports halls onsite. This is nearly always possible. If we are unable to get coaching inside, then you will receive an email to confirm any cancellations with as much notice as possible. It is the coach who will decide if the weather is unsuitable for coaching to take place. If a session runs and you choose not to attend, then this is your choice to miss the session and no credit will be given. You will however have the option to make up the missed session at any already running.

Between October half term and February half term, we run our Blue, Red and Orange sessions inside in one of the onsite sports halls to ensure coaching can continue through the Winter.

How do I get my racket to you for a restring?

We can arrange to pick up your racket, or meet you pretty much anywhere within Hull & East Riding of Yorkshire. We are based in Hull and Cherry Burton, so as a rough guide anywhere within a 20 minute drive of those venues.

I need a new grip – can you also fit it?

Yes! As long as we have your racket, we can fit the grip for you for no additional cost.

I want a new full size racket, can I try a few out before I buy?

Absolutely! This is why we don’t show the rackets on our site. We will start by finding out what sort of player you are and we can then give you a few options to try out. We recommend arranging a hit with us so we can go through the different rackets with you. Rackets are personal, and we want to offer our professional advice to make sure you end up with the right racket for you. Please note we don't post rackets out to demo.
